This elective enrolls 8 students at a cost of $2000 per student. This cost covers many expenses for the month including: travel to/from & between evolutions, food during evolutions, all park entry fees, lodging between evolutions and group gear.
Students are responsible for travel to/from the elective. Housing while in the ED portion in Portland; and personal gear and meals during the breaks between evolutions.
Personal gear, if purchased, can be quite expensive, but most items can be either borrowed or rented. The course provides larger items such as stoves and canoes, but smaller items such as sleeping bags and backpacks are easily rented or borrowed. Many colleges and universities have outing clubs that can loan you these items for free.
We realize this is not cheap but we feel its value is high. We have made many efforts to keep costs down. All instructor time is donated (actually vacation time to be specific). In our research, similar experience-based courses offered by other organizations typically run at nearly double the cost.
